SEPS Program Structure

In 2020, SEPS 2.0 comprises three key events for the Geelong region: two cycles of teacher professional learning (total of 4 days), a student Maker Faire, and a STEM Education conference. Across the three events, primary teachers and students will have opportunities to work with curriculum and technical experts, innovators and entrepreneurs to gain practical knowledge and skills in science, design, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship education.

Teacher Professional Learning Workshops

Teachers from local primary schools will be participating in two cycles of professional learning at Deakin University where they will work with:

  • STEM Education experts from Deakin University.

  • teachers who participated in the SEPS 2018 program who will share first-hand classroom experience and expertise in curriculum design and classroom instruction.

  • technical experts and entrepreneurs from Deakin, Skilling the Bay and Upstart to provide practical knowledge and skills in STEM areas in supporting their development of innovative curriculum.

Student Maker Faire

The Maker Faire provides a platform for students from the SEPS schools to participate in STEM activities and showcase their STEM work in schools to a wide audience. The Faire will be delivered by:

  • students presenting their own Projects

  • teachers who participated in the PL workshops and their students

  • local entrepreneurs

  • winners of Upstart Challenge

  • industries and organisations

  • researchers who are working in the area of IT, engineering, and sciences at Deakin University

STEM Education Conference

The conference will be held in the innovative CADET building on the Deakin Waurn Ponds campus with local entrepreneurs as guest speakers, including Upstart who will run an entrepreneurship training workshop for conference delegates. This is a national conference, with presentations by teachers, academics and industry representations from around Australia.

The SEPS teachers and teachers from the Geelong region will be invited to run workshops to showcase their STEM and entrepreneurship programs.

Conference bus tours will allow delegates to visit local primary schools to observe innovative activities in action.

STEM Education Conference
